Since we have a heavy slant towards healthy foods, it’s only fair to explain some of our thought processes behind our foods, and to also show why we only use certain preparation methods and specific ingredients.
We’ve taken the extra care to understand the science in relation to food and apply its logic so that we can benefit from what nature is providing us with. Our objective is to create and provide alkaline-focused meals as much as we can to promote healthy living.
So which is better? The answer is a resounding both!
It’s always good to eat the entire fruit or vegetable in its whole and raw form and gain from all that is available from it, including the fibre in the pulp, so blending your favourites for a delicious smoothie is fantastic.
Juicing offers a slightly unique benefit since by removing the fibre, the liquid from the juice can be absorbed immediately by the small intestine having bypassed the full digestive process of the stomach with its acids. This enables the enzymes of the produce to get to work at cellular level within 10-15 minutes! …which is of enormous health value when trying to nourish or heal the body.
We do combinations of smoothies and juices to give you the best of both worlds and we make it all taste delicious too which is also a hit with kids who don’t like veggie juice on its own. We combine a juice together with ripe sweet fruit like bananas, pineapple or kiwi fruits and mangoes and it becomes a delectable treat!
Why have we chosen not to use them?
The truth is that microwave ovens heat food by causing molecules to vibrate together violently which creates heat. This is a totally unnatural method, and the radiation inflicted on the food to heat it actually degenerates whatever is being zapped with those powerful microwaves.
Many a study has been conducted showing clear evidence that microwaves not only destroy nutrients but that they also form new harmful substances in the food which we would prefer to just steer clear of.
So although microwaves are extremely convenient and are very much a part of our modern culture, we have opted to abstain from using them in the preparation of our nutritious food, because we value the benefits retained when no radiation is involved. More care for the food we prepare is the name of the game here, and we think it’s reflected in the quality we serve to you.
Each of our juices will have more in it than you would probably eat in an average day!
And we don’t use anything other than real fruit and vegetables in our juices.
You won’t see us buy in packets of pre-packed frozen fruit or see us open sachets of stuff to pad out your juice with a substitute for the real thing just because it costs less. Nope. We only believe in the real thing. That means by hook or by crook you’ll only ever see us use fresh fruit and vegetables each and every day. It costs us more too, but we subscribe to an ethos of doing the right thing and providing the genuine article.

since our soups are not just basic starters but veritable delicious meals. Every day we'll have a great soup option available for you to try and some days we might even have two on offer, just to add extra choice.
Our mission with our soups is to make them wholesome, healthy, full of vegetables and flavour and all the while making it filling and delicious. With our specially created combinations of seasonings that are a secret you won’t know how we did it!
One of our soups will usually be a totally veg option with no dairy or meat and you’ll be dazzled by how we create the flavours in your bowl! Have it in or take it away, it won’t make a difference to your enjoyment of it, but always come back to tell us what you thought!

All our croissants have that extra special something that keeps people coming back for more, we don’t know what it is exactly but we have a fair idea it comes down to the love it was prepared with and the quality of ingredients used.
We even have gluten-free loaves and also genuine organic spelt (most commercial spelt flours are sadly not 100% spelt anymore) so you can certainly find what you want or need to go with your meal!

To top it off (literally!) we use locally produced & entirely organic milk. We also do a large range of plant-based milks such as soya, almond, oat and rice milks, and as they are healthier for you, we encourage you to try them and find the right one for you! We believe the quality of our cup is clearly discernible and that’s what we think everyone who comes in deserves. Well, there are two major reasons for this, and one kind of rolls on to the next so let’s do them in order...
1. Using chemicals, such as insecticide, to grow fruit and veg is not natural to the produce or consumers. Research shows the chemicals produce long term damage to both human and animal. We ingest the produce and chemicals, which speed up ageing and gnaw away at the immune system’s defences.
2. The other important factor is the soil. The chemicals kill off many good bacteria which produce the nutrients for our plants. As such, many amazing nutrients are now only found in organic produce.
Elian strive to source organic produce. We want you to have the best taste and produce available. While this may come at a higher price, we belive it's worth the extra taste and health benefits.
What does it mean when something oxidises?
A good example is to think of what happens when you slice an apple in half and look at it for a few minutes; the enzymes react with the oxygen that is present in the air and the apple starts to turn brown. Leave it much longer and it will quickly go bad.
Why is this important to understand? Well, just knowing that our fruits and vegetables go bad when exposed to air is one thing, but it also tells us that that the quicker we consume the fruit or vegetable after breaking its skin the better it is for our health since we will have consumed it before it has oxidised (gone bad).
Juicing makes oxidation occur even more as all of the juice is exposed to the oxygen simultaneously, so it’s important to remember that a juice should always be made fresh, and consumed immediately for full benefit. The longer you wait, the less effective it is.
Did you know that flaxseeds should be consumed within 15 minutes of cracking open? The reason for this is that their delicate essential fatty acids turn rancid when exposed to air for about that time.
Ready-milled flaxseeds (even in foil packs) are already rancid and are actually detrimental to health.
The flaxseeds we use are always organic and ground here - on the spot - and ready for immediate consumption and instantaneous and maximum nutritional benefit!
So what’s the deal with Protein?
Did you know that the human body doesn’t actually do much with the protein that gets ingested?
The body’s requirements are always for amino acids, which is what protein is made from. When we eat protein all that happens is that through digestion we extract the amino acids and eliminate the protein! So where do we get amino acids from? They’re found in abundance in all live (raw) fruits and vegetables! This explains why people and the majority of animals are able to thrive without eating meat.
Need more proof? Something to consider: Where does a cow get its protein from? A cow’s muscle mass is many times that of a human so how can it survive on regular grass? (All the amino acids a cow requires to build healthy muscle and stay totally nourished for life is found in plain and simple grass!)
